2006-07-19 A Scanner Darkly is really quite good. Make sure you see it on the big screen though. I haven't read that particular Philip K. Dick book, but I've enjoyed many of his other ones...the movies made from his books do not live up to the books. But that's not really moviemakers' fault...I can't imagine how to put a PKD story on the screen faithfully. Seems to me like Richard Linklater did a pretty damn good job, though. The rotoscoping process he came up with in Waking Life has come a long way, and it really lends itself to conveying the skewed perception and drug-fuelled paranoia that infuses PDK's writing. The acting...well, the casting is superb, and there aren't that many actors who could have pulled it off so well. Yeah, go see it. And let me know what you think.
